Best practices

How to get the most from this form.

Require the goals field with a minimum length

A vague 'we want a new website' tells you nothing. Set a minimum length on the Project Goals field to force clients to think through their objectives before submitting.

Use deliverables as checkboxes

Pre-defined deliverable options (Design files, Developed product, Documentation, etc.) make scope discussions concrete from the first review of the brief.

Ask for competitor references

Knowing what competitors or inspiration sources a client references tells you their taste and helps you differentiate the project positioning early.

Accept multiple file formats for assets

Clients submit everything from PDFs and PowerPoints to ZIP archives. Accept broad file types to avoid blocking submissions due to format restrictions.

FAQ

Common questions.

What should a project brief form include?
A complete project brief should collect: Contact info, Project name and type, Goals and success criteria, Target audience, Competitor or inspiration references, Budget range, Timeline, Expected deliverables, and existing assets. This template includes all of these.
How does a project brief form save time?
By collecting structured requirements upfront, your team arrives at the kickoff call with a shared understanding of the project. This eliminates a discovery call dedicated entirely to gathering basic information — saving 30–60 minutes per project.
Should I require a budget range on the brief?
Yes, in most cases. Budget shapes every creative and technical decision. Collecting a range upfront (even a wide one) prevents scoping work for a project that doesn't align with your minimum. If clients are sensitive about sharing budget, make the field optional.
Can clients upload existing brand assets through this form?
Yes. The project brief template includes a file upload field that accepts PDF, DOCX, PPTX, ZIP, JPG, and PNG. Files are stored on Cloudflare R2 with 1 GB free on the free plan.
Can I use this for internal project requests too?
Yes. Internal teams (marketing submitting to design, product submitting to dev) benefit from the same structured brief. Rename 'Company' to 'Department' and adjust the budget and timeline options to match your internal workflow.
